Rakesh Roshan’s 2003 film Koi Mil Gaya starring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and others was one of the first sci-fi films featuring the concept of aliens. As the film completes 20 years, the makers are set to re-release it in theatres.
Koi Mil Gaya featured a young developmentally disabled man Rohit, who makes contact with an alien - Jadoo, using his late father’s invention. As his friendship with Jadoo grows, he gains extraordinary abilities.
Ahead of the film’s theatrical re-release, director Rakesh Roshan reflected on how many thought Hrithik Roshan was a one-film wonder before Koi Mil Gaya’s release and after the success of Kaho Naa Pyaar hai.
He also recounted how Hrithik had committed himself to prove himself by playing Rohit. Talking about the excitement around the re-release, Rakesh Roshan said, “It was a risk I was taking as a filmmaker introducing a Sci-fi film with an alien, but the audience response was my biggest reward. It was satisfying and strengthened my belief as a filmmaker to keep making films on different genres, storylines and keep experimenting.”
Koi Mil Gaya will re-release in theatres on August 4, 2023.
